Land Of Green Ginger Alpacas - Our Story
Welcome to our home page and to the Land Of Green Ginger Alpacas. Let me tell you our story and how fate intervened and led us to our dream job of raising alpacas. Our adventure with alpacas started about three years ago. We had purchased six acres of land to build two homes, one for ourselves and my mother to live in and one for our son and his family. Like all well laid plans it didn't exactly work out and my son ended up being transferred with his job to Colorado. We were then left wondering what to do with all this land until one day we saw an advertisment on the television about alpacas and the alpaca business. Being passionate animal lovers we started to do our research to see if the alpaca business was a viable investment and if we had enough land to accomodate an alpaca farm. My first encounter with these beautiful animals was on a visit to Peru five years earlier and their beauty and gentle nature had struck a cord with me. Never in a million years would I have believed that we would have our own herd of alpacas one day.
To cut a long story short our research began and the more we looked into the possiblity of raising alpacas the more excited we became. Through our research we discovered that our six acre property was more than ample to support a good sized farm, that we could keep up to ten animals per acre and that alpacas are one of the most lucrative livestock investments out there. We quickly began to realize that we could do something we love and make a good living doing it. The lifestyle that the alpaca business offered was as appealing if not more so than the money side of the business. For a long time we had been searching for a business that we could really enjoy, because you know what they say "do what you love and the money will follow".
We purchased our first two pregnant females just over two years ago and we now have a herd of thirty eight animals consisting of twenty one female huacayas, three female suris (breed types explained in the alpaca info section), thirteen haucaya males and one suri male. We have purchased quality animals from all over the United States and we are very proud of our herd. Between October 07 and October 08 we have ninteen crias (baby alpacas) due so we are very excited to see the results of our breeding program. The more we get involved with the business, attend the shows and make friends in the business, the more we realize that we have found what we have been searching for.
I invite you to enjoy looking through our website and seeing our animals on the live alpaca-cam. The services we offer include business training, hands on training with the alpacas, service sires, alpaca sales, agisting (boarding), showing animals. If we can be of any assistance to you please feel free to call us anytime. We welcome farm visitors and look forward to meeting you.
Welcome to the Adventure!!
